About Cosmetic Dentistry

The most common cosmetic dentistry procedures include porcelain veneers, crowns, bonding, composite veneers, teeth whitening, Invisalign, reshaping and contouring of existing teeth. These enhancements not only improve the function of your oral cavity but also improve your oral health and well being.

In recent years, there has been a growing demand for cosmetic dentistry procedures. A few things to keep in mind when selecting a cosmetic dentist is to make sure you have done your research. See plenty of before and afters, and most importantly, feel comfortable with your cosmetic dentist.

At Ambriz Aesthetic Design, Dr. Albert Ambriz, a New York City Cosmetic Dentist provides his patients with the most natural porcelain veneers.  Dr. Ambriz’s training as a Master Dental Technician has set him apart from many cosmetic dentists by having a better understating of how porcelain veneers are created and being able to better communicate with the lab to create some of the most beautiful natural smiles in NYC.

In the field of Cosmetic Dentistry, there are several different material selections for restoring a smile.  Most commonly, you’ll hear about zirconia crowns, Emax, Empress or feldspathic.  Because each material is so unique in its physical characteristics, understanding the material can impact the overall aesthetics of a smile makeover or simply to replace a single tooth.  Not only is there a wide range of material selection but also technology to fabricating these restorations.  While the technology has made it easier to make these restorations, Dr. Ambriz strongly believes that in order to achieve the ultimate aesthetic outcome, it is best that a skillful Cosmetic Dentist and Master Ceramist design and fabricate these restorations by hand.  It is the small imperfections in a smile that make the teeth look natural.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Ambriz will go into depth with a series of questions to get a better understanding of what you are trying to achieve, whether it be a smile makeover or porcelain veneers to enhance your smile.  Depending on your needs and wants, Dr. Ambriz will select the best material that will provide you with the most aesthetic results.  Several digital photographs are taken and molds of your teeth are made.  Once all the records are taken, Dr. Ambriz will perform his FloSculpt® technique to show you a preview of your new smile.  In most cases, patients may be presented with wax-ups or digital imaging photographs of their new smile by other dentists but with FloSculpt®, Dr. Ambriz has been able to show patients the results on the same day of consultation.

Cosmetic Dentistry Q & A's

What Can I Expect Once I Accept Treatment? +

First visit: This is typically the longest visit and ask patients that they wear something comfortable and warm as they will be in the chair for an extended period of time. During this visit, Dr. Ambriz will customize your new smile in our NYC cosmetic dental office. All temporaries are custom hand made personally by Dr. Ambriz.

Second Visit: This is the first post-op and usually this visit is done next day to evaluate the new temporaries and to select the final color of the natural porcelain veneers. Several measurements and photographs are taken during this visit and is a critical step prior to sending the final information to the lab.

Third Visit: This is the big day! Typically 1-2 weeks after the first visit (prep day) the final restorations (ie. Porcelain veneers) are cemented. Prior to Dr. Ambriz permanently cementing the final restorations, you will have the opportunity to see how the teeth look in your mouth and can compare them to the temporaries. This visit is also a long appointment and it is recommended to wear something comfortable and warm.

Fourth Visit: Finally after everything has been cemented, Dr. Ambriz likes to have his patients come back the following day to make any necessary adjustments.

What Happens After My Treatment? +

Continuing Care: Once Dr. Ambriz has completed your case, depending on your situation, Dr. Ambriz may place you on a 3,4 or 6 month hygiene recall.

How long will my porcelain veneers last? +

The life of veneers or crowns is highly dependent on the care given to the restorations. With proper care and a periodic check, restorations can last anywhere between 15-20 years. Keep in mind that trauma or poor oral hygiene can drastically reduce the life of veneers.

When do I replace my old porcelain veneers? +

Event though the lifespan of veneers can be up to 20 years, that does not mean that the restorations need to be replaced just because they hit the 20 year mark. There are several factors that may require a replacement. Most of the time if the teeth are healthy and there is no visible decay, veneers can be polished to give back a luster effect.

Do porcelain veneers change color? +

Short answer, NO. Porcelain does not change color but what does change color is the underlying tooth structure just as normal teeth would over a period of 10-20 years. The change of color is usually not detectable due to better cements used in cosmetic dentistry today.

What is the cost of Veneers? +

Due to the nature of our porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns being custom made, we unfortunately do not quote any fees at Ambriz Aesthetic Design until Dr. Albert Ambriz has done a comprehensive exam. To find out more info about our fees, please contact our office at 917 512 3170.
